    En el presente artículo reproducimos algunas de las cartas que intercambiaron Carlos Finlay y Crescencio Carrillo y Ancona en el año de 1892, en las que este último brinda datos históricos y documentales respecto el origen de la fiebre amarilla en América prehispánica. Mediante un software de reconocimiento de voz se procedió a transcribir las cartas, convirtiéndolas en un nuevo formato digital. El contenido del documento original permite comprobar que la información brindada por Carrillo y Ancona refuerza la hipótesis de Finlay acerca del carácter endémico de esta enfermedad y de su persistencia en el continente americano desde tiempos remotos. Una idea que contradice aquella otra que sostiene que dicha pestilencia había sido traída por los españoles tras su llegada a este continente.

    In this paper we reproduce some of the letters exchanged by Carlos Finlay and Crescencio Carrillo and Ancona in the year 1892 and where the latter provides historical and documentary data regarding the origin of yellow fever in pre-Hispanic America. Through voice recognition software, the letters were transcribed, converting them to a new digital format. The content of the original document allows us to verify that the information provided by Carrillo and Ancona reinforces Finlay’s hypothesis regarding the endemic nature of this disease and its persistence in the American continent since ancient times. An idea that contradicts that other that maintains that this pestilence had been brought by the Spaniards after their arrival in this continent.
