  • Resumen
    • The management problems that arise when a design is undertaken within a distributed computer-based environment have been considered, A design decision-making structure to handle such problems has then been proposed, based upon the idea of assigning design variables within a constraint-resolving process. An assignment hierarchy can be formed to represent any design or management structure, and the individual designers allowed to enter at an appropriate level, dependent on the design task being undertaken. Variables and rules are then automatically assigned to allow the problem in hand to be addressed. Such a system is currently being implemented for the design of mechanisms for high-speed machinery. This employs a higher level token-based system to monitor, control and reset the various processes in its search for a true solution to the design problem.
