Resumen de De los bandidos y políticos caucanos: el general Manuel María Victoria, «El Negro»

En este artículo se hace una presentación de las condiciones que llevaron al surgimiento de bandidos en el Valle del Cauca, Colombia, durante el Siglo XIX. También se exponen algunos elementos teóricos acerca del bandidaje y su relación con la sociedad en que surgen. La intención es mostrar el papel que el bandidaje cumple en la sociedad y su participación política en la construcción del Estado republicano y en la transformación de las formas sociales heredadas del período colonial.
También se hace un seguimiento biográfico de uno de los principales «bandidos» caucanos quien, gracias a una destacada actividad política y militar, llegó a ser uno de los más importantes generales de la República y, quizás, el primer «negro» que en Colombia alcanzó tal distinción. Se mira no sólo su actividad política, sino también la percepción que sus contemporáneos tenían acerca de una persona que, a pesar de su desempeño político público, llegó a ser considerado un bandido famoso.

In this article the emergence of bandits is studied in the Valley ofthe Cauca, Colombia, during the XIX Century. Some theoretical elements are also exposed about the banditry and their relationship with the society in that they arise. The intention is to show the function dell banditry in the society and its political participation in the construction of the republican State and in the transformation of the inherited society of the colonial period. A biographical pursuit is also made of one of the main "bandits" caucanos who, thanks to an outstanding political and military activity, it ended up being one of the most important generals in the Republic and, maybe, the first black man that reached such a distinction in Colombia. At their political activity is looked and also the perception that its contemporaries had about a person that, in spite of its public political acting, it arrived to be considered a famous bandit.
