Cristales rotos, un capítulo de treinta y siete minutos que integra el film colectivo Centro histórico, estrenado en 2013, es, hasta la fecha, la última película realizada por Víctor Erice. La obra es imposible de clasificar en términos de cine de ficción o documental. Las claves y las razones para esta indeterminación se sitúan, por un lado, en la particular visión moral del cineasta vasco acerca de su profesión, y por otro en la implementación, por su parte, de una metodología de trabajo que sitúa el proceso de creación de esta película como un lugar, al mismo tiempo, de llegada y de revisión de su propia trayectoria. El presente artículo pretende desentrañar las claves de ese proceso creativo que acaba por reformular, dentro de la carrera profesional de Erice, los procesos y rutinas de trabajo propios del director de cine en términos de ficción y documental.

Vidros Partidos, a thirty-seven minutes chapter from the collective film Centro histórico released on 2013, is, to this day, the last film produced by Víctor Erice. The piece is impossible to classify within the standards of fiction or documentary films. The keys and reasons for this vagueness are, on the one hand, in the morals of the Basque filmmaker on his profession and, on the other hand, in the implementation of a mode of operation in this film which sets the creative process into a territory of review and, at the same time, arrival, considering Erice’s career. This article aims to unravel the keys of that creative process by following the logic of a filmmaker who, facing the assignment of making a film with certain thematic and technical premises, also self-imposes a series of limitations and criteria in consistency with his own ideology and with the portrayed environment. This results in a reformulation of Erice’s directing processes and routines in terms of both fiction and documentary cinema.
