Entre el sur de la provincia de Lugo y el norte de la de Ourense, donde confluyen los ríos Miño y Sil, se encuentra una de las áreas de mayor significado patrimonial de Galicia: la Ribeira Sacra. La profundidad de sus valles, sus viñedos y los numerosos monasterios documentados en este territorio han despertado el interés de investigadores, eruditos y divulgadores de muy distinta formación e intereses. Aparentemente, la Ribeira Sacra es un espacio bien conocido y abordado, pero ¿todos los aspectos han recibido la misma atención? El presente artículo tiene como objetivo presentar, analizando la información recogida en la bibliografía de los últimos cien años, en qué estado –y estadio– se halla el estudio de su cultura escrita plenomedieval

Situated between the south of the province of Lugo and the north of the province of Ourense, where the Miño and Sil rivers meet, we find one of the most important areas of Galician cultural heritage: the Ribeira Sacra. This territory’s deep valleys, vineyards and numerous well-documented monasteries have caught the attention of many researchers, scholars and popular writers from widely varying backgrounds and fields of interest. At first glance the Ribeira Sacra seems to be a well-known and studied space, but have all its many aspects really received the same careful attention? The aim of this article is to present, by analyzing the information gleaned from the bibliography of the last one hundred years, the present state –and stage– of studies of the area’s written medieval culture
