  Pinus lumholtzii Robins y Ferns es una especie endémica de la Sierra Madre Occidental, los bosques conformados por dicha especie se desarrollan en pendientes pronunciadas y suelos pobres. El objetivo de este trabajo fue, reconstruir la historia de incendios forestales a través de los registros gravados en los anillos de crecimiento de P. lumholtzii. Con base en un muestreo selectivo, se colectaron 37 muestras con cicatrices de incendios. Las muestras se analizaron y fecharon con base en técnicas dendrocronológicas estándar. Se logró reconstruir la historia de incendios para los últimos 364 años (1653-2016). La mayor frecuencia de incendios se reconstruyó para el período de 1738 a 1986, posterior a esta fecha, se determinó un período de exclusión del fuego de 30 años. La exclusión del fuego en los últimos treinta años en estos bosques, crea un escenario de riesgo a la ocurrencia de un incendio de gran magnitud.

  Pinus lumholtzii Robins and Ferns is an endemic species of the Sierra Madre Occidental; the forests formed by this species develop on steep slopes and poor soils. The objective of this work was to reconstruct the history of forest fires through records recorded in the growth rings of P. lumholtzii. Based on selective sampling, 37 samples were collected with fire scars. Samples were analyzed and dated based on standard dendrochronological techniques. The fire history was reconstructed for the last 364 years (1653-2016). The highest frequency of fires was reconstructed for the period from 1738 to 1986, after this date, a period of fire exclusion of 30 years was determined. The exclusion of fire in the last thirty years in these forests creates a risk scenario for the occurrence of a large fire.
