De la montaña natural a la montaña humanizada: estudio antropológico de la relación entre la ciudad de Caracas y el Ávila

    Los individuos que habitan la ciudad de Caracas parecen encontrarse curiosamente ensimismados por un elemento de la naturaleza que inevitablemente define su paisaje urbano. El Ávila, cuyo nombre oficial es Waraira Repano, es el topónimo de la montaña ubicada al norte de la capital venezolana que resulta ser objeto de admiración para sus habitantes. Así pues, entre los urbanitas y la silueta verde que se divisa en el horizonte, hay una estrecha relación que los individuos han construido. De modo tal, que la presente investigación resultante de un trabajo final para optar al título de Antropólogo, tiene como principal intención explorar, a través del estudio de los imaginarios que elaboran 12 informantes claves habitantes de Caracas, los dispositivos que contribuyen a la conformación de nuestra identidad territorial, legitimando a la montaña como símbolo representativo de la misma y así poder reflexionar sobre el debate epistemológico de la separación naturaleza/cultura. Para ello, nos enfocamos en transitar por la senda de lo cualitativo, partiendo del método etnográfico, obteniendo resultados que giran en torno a la idea de que el Ávila constituye de manera clara, un símbolo indispensable en la construcción social y cultural del gentilicio caraqueño, hasta el punto en que Caracas no puede ser pensada sin el Ávila, como tampoco el Ávila puede ser pensada sin la ciudad.

    The people that live in the city of Caracas seem to be curiously absorbed by an element of nature that inevitably defines its urban landscape. The Avila, official name Waraira Repano, is the toponym of the mountain located at the north of the Venezuelan capital city that is in fact an object of admiration to its inhabitants. Therefore, between the urbanites and the green silhouette seen in the horizon, exists a close relationship that the inhabitants have built. Thus, the present investigation, resulted from a Bachelor's thesis to obtain the title of Anthropologist, has the main objective of exploring, through the study of the imaginaries elaborated by 12 key informant inhabitants of Caracas, the elements that contribute to the formation of our territorial identity, legitimizing the mountain as a representative symbol of itself and thus to be able to reflect about the epistemological debate of the separation nature/culture. To achieve this, we focus in going through the path of the qualitative, from the ethnographic method, obtaining results that revolve around the idea that the Avila constitutes in a clear way a fundamental symbol in the social and cultural construction of the Caracas demonym. As a result, the Caracas city cannot be conceived without the Avila and the Avila cannot be conceived without the city.
