Resumen de Guía para cuidadores de enfermos terminales: manejo de los síntomas más frecuentes en Cuidados Paliativos

En Cuidados Paliativos se considera que las unidades a tratar son el enfermo y la familia con quien convive y que le cuida. Los profesionales de un Equipo Soporte de Atención Domiciliaria (ESAD) han elaborado una guía que trata sobre el manejo de los síntomas más frecuentes que se presentan en la fase terminal de una enfermedad oncológica. El principal objetivo de la guía es apoyar a la familia en los cuidados que se requieren para mejorar la calidad de vida del enfermo y de la propia familia.
En el artículo los autores analizan diferentes aspectos de los Cuidados Paliativos: el papel de la familia; la importancia del apoyo a los cuidadores;
la función de un ESAD; y las principales características de la guía, su estructura y la necesidad de la elaboración de este tipo de materiales.

It is considered that in Palliative Care the subjects to treat are the patient and the family who lives with him and takes care of him. A Home Care Team of Primary Care has written a guide about the management of the most common symptoms in the terminal stages of an oncology illness.
The main objective of the guide is to assist the family in the necessary care to improve the comfort of the patient and his family.
In this article, the authors analyse different aspects of the Palliative Care: the role of the family; the importance of the support to the caregivers; the role of a Home Care Team of Primary Care; and the main characteristics of the guide, his structure and the relevance of the elaboration of this kind of materials.
