  This article analyses the Gesta Philippi Augusti of Rigord of Saint-Denis, with the aim of understanding how the image of Richard Lionheart was constructed in that chronicle. Identifying the most important facets of this character, allows us to explain the meaning that the figure of the English Monarch took in this text, which makes possible to understand why it was built like this and what was the objective pursued by the monk of Saint-Denis when he was led from this way.
