Resumen de Uno sguardo sulla guarigione del paralitico nella Gallia altomedievale: Miracoli, emozioni e percezioni sensoriali nel De Virtutibus Sancti Martini Episcopi di Gregorio di Tours

Emanuele Piazza

  • Gregory, Bishop of Tours, in his De virtutibus sancti Martini, narrates the tribulations of many paralytics who, in various situations, were cured by St. Martin’s healing virtues. In addition to the description of the miracles made by the Saint towards those who had lost the use of a leg, an arm or even of all their limbs, this source focuses on the visual and auditory elements which marked their healings. Therefore the emphasis is given both to the frequency with which weeps, shouts and prayers signalled the presence of sick people at St. Martin Shrine in Tours, and to the emotional impact that the sight of those crippled bodies, now healed by the miraculous intercession, aroused in Gregory and in the faithful.
