Good teamwork is essential to successfully complete team-based design projects. As such, engineering students are expected tolearn how to work collaboratively. While team-project-based design courses have been implemented in almost all engineering andengineering technology disciplines, achieving full contribution by all team members has been a persistent challenge. In this paper,we review instruments for measuring design-team factors (i.e., inputs, processes, and outputs) that may be used for collecting datafor forming effective and collaborative design teams. To guide the literature review, we first review existing team-effectivenessmodels. Next, we propose a new model for student design teams and illustrate possible associations between design-team factors. We then review instruments for measuring these factors using the new model as a literature-review framework.
