“Los herejes”, de Arturo Uslar Pietri y “Los come-muerto” de José Rafael Pocaterra son dos muestras interesantes de la cuentística venezolana. En estos dos textos sus respectivos autores exploran el tema de los prejuicios sociales, y ambos coinciden en colocarlos como consecuencia de la ignorancia de los agresores.
La metodología es la lectura y el análisis del texto. La conclusión es la siguiente: tanto Uslar como Pocaterra comprendieron las nefastas consecuencias de los prejuicios sociales. Ambos buscaron alertar sobre esas situaciones. Uslar lo hace mostrando los efectos trágicos que pueden acarrear los prejuicios sociales. Pocaterra, al resaltar el significado de la compasión, invita al lector a reflexionar y a recapacitar

Arturo Uslar Pietri’s “The heretics” and José Rafael Pocaterra’s “The corpse-eaters” are two interesting Venezuelan short stories. In these two texts, their respective authors explore the issue of social prejudices, and they both agree that those prejudices are the consequence of the ignorance of the aggressors.
And the conclusion is this: both Uslar and Pocaterra understood the terrible consequences of social prejudices. Both Uslar and Pocaterra, in their own way, trie to alert about those situations. Uslar does it by showing the tragic effects that social prejudices may carry. Pocaterra, by highlighting the meaning of compassion, invites the reader to reflect and change.
