Resumen de La antigua Misión en Ciudad Juárez: patrimonio y ruta literaria

La Misión de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de los Mansos del Paso del Norte se fundó el 8 de diciembre de 1659 por fray García de San Francisco; el templo conserva un enorme legado religioso, histórico y arquitectónico. Se ha mantenido en pie gracias a las ansias de permanecer en un territorio que parecía hostil para expedicionarios y misioneros por el clima y el encuentro con los primeros pobladores. En el proyecto Cartografía literaria de Ciudad Juárez entendemos al inmueble como punto clave en el trazado urbano fronterizo; como lugar insignia, marca el inicio de una ruta literaria que rescata y recorre el patrimonio del antiguo Paso del Norte a través de la relación entre las letras y el territorio. Mi trabajo pretende exponer las características formales del edificio, así como los discursos en torno a su fundación y desarrollo que permiten su vigencia e incidencia en el día a día de la urbe. Resulta inevitable que todo recorrido por la historia y las calles de Ciudad Juárez comience ahí, un lugar también erigido por las palabras de nuestros antepasados.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de los Mansos del Paso del Norte was founded on December 8, 1659 by Fray García de San Francisco; the mission preserves an outstanding religious, historical, and architectural legacy. It has remained in operation thanks to a desire to prevail in a territory that explorers and missionaries saw as hostile due to its climate and their encounters with the first settlers. The project Cartografía literaria de Ciudad Juárez considers the mission a cornerstone in the blueprint of the Mexican border town; as an emblem, it marks the beginning of a literary route that rescues and retraces the heritage of the former Paso del Norte region through the relationship between writing and territory. My work aims to expose the formal characteristics of the building, as well as the discourses surrounding its foundation. The development of the mission explains its significance and impact on everyday life in the city. It is inevitable that every journey through the history and the streets of Ciudad Juárez begins there, a place also erected by the words of our ancestors.
