El instante de la muerte marcaba el inicio de algo perdurable y eterno: la otra vida. Tal creencia, profundamente arraigada en la sociedad que conformó la institución —materia de este estudio—, explica sus inquietudes ultraterrenas, de ahí, todas las precauciones que tomaron para la salvación de su alma. En función de dichas previsiones se crean asociaciones piadosas (intermediarias entre el pueblo y las altas esferas religiosas), receptoras de donativos, mandas testamentarias, etc. El término religiosidad popular engloba así el concepto de “más allá”, como trascendencia del ser, además de enlazar la religión a la vida cotidiana del pueblo y crear mecanismos para expresar su fervor religioso. Por ello, la relación de bienes muebles de la cofradía de Betancuria, permitirá relacionar, sucintamente, estos objetos con la expresión del culto.

The moment of death marked the beginning of something enduring and eternal afterlife. Based on these forecasts are created religious organizations (intermediary between the people and the high religious spheres), receiving donations, send testamentary, etc. The term encompasses popular religion and the concept of “beyond”, as transcendence of being, as well as linking the religion to people's daily life, and create mechanisms to express their religious fervor. Therefore, the ratio of personal property of the brotherhood of Betancuria, will relate succinctly these objects with the expression of worship.
