Resumen de Sobre lenguajes corporales: una visión transversal del tratamiento simbólico del cuerpo en el mundo indígena en Venezuela

Este artículo explora los usos y significados del tratamiento del cuerpo en las culturas indígenas que habitan y habitaron el territorio que actualmente conforma Venezuela. Esperamos elucidar a través de éste las distintas formas de simbolización a través de la corporalidad, para comparar entonces las diferencias y concomitancias en el tiempo y el espacio. Pensamos que existe un imaginario simbólico en torno al cuerpo que es compartido en diversos horizontes culturales desde regiones y períodos muy lejanos, y que continúan existiendo hoy en día. Podremos comprobar así en qué medida la representación del cuerpo y el tratamiento del mismo coinciden en estas sociedades con nociones que conectan al individuo con ideales trascendentales, relacionados con su cosmogonía y mitología particulares.

This article explores the uses and meanings of embodiment in indigenous cultures that inhabited and still live in Venezuelan territory. Our aim consists identifying different means of symbolic representation through corporality, and proof differences and correlations in space and time. We understand there exists a symbolic imaginary on the body, which is shared by different cultural horizons, from very distant periods and regions, and which still exists in the present. We shall proof to what extent the representation and treatment of the body coincide in these societies with notions that connect each individual with transcendental ideals, related to their particular cosmogony and mythology.
