El presente trabajo de investigación aborda la necesidad del aprendizaje y fortalecimiento de vocabulario en inglés orientado hacia el bienestar y la conservación animal, mediante la implementación del videojuego Animal Jam (creado por WildWorks en colaboración con la National Geographic™), como herramienta didáctica en el aprendizaje de dicho idioma. Adicionalmente, se indaga sobre cada uno de los constructos principales de la actual investigación: Vocabulario, Bienestar y Conservación animal; y Videojuego. La metodología implementada es Investigación-acción y el análisis de datos se realizó a la luz de la teoría fundamentada en datos. Finalmente se construyen una serie de conclusiones que dilucidan al videojuego como agente motivante para el aprendizaje y fortalecimiento de vocabulario sobre bienestar y conservación animal, dentro y fuera de la clase
The present research study addresses the need for learning and enhancing vocabulary in English towards creating learners¨ animal welfare and conservation awareness through the implementation of the video game Animal Jam (created by Wildworks in cooperation with the National Geographic ™). The video game was used as a didactic tool to foster the students´ English language learning. The document presents the main theoretical constructs of the research such as: vocabulary, animal welfare and conservation; and video game. In addition, the methodology is framed into a qualitative study and action-research model. The data analysis was carried out following the principles of the grounded theory. Finally, some conclusions are derived from the role played by the video game as a powerful instrument for motivating students’ English learning, which simultaneously increased their vocabulary about animal welfare and conservation inside and outside the classroom
