Damos a conocer seis importantes custodias de tipo sol con astil de figura, piezas de platería Iberoamericana en Álava y Bizkaia. Cinco se conservan “in situ” y una en el Museo de Arte Sacro de Vitoria. Sobresale el tratamiento, calidad e iconografía de estas pequeñas esculturas –águila bicéfala, ángeles alados y santos– características pero singulares. Se completan con el esplendor del sol, cenefas y festoneados que se alternan con los materiales y piedras preciosas. Relación entre los modelos que se hacían en la península y los del Nuevo Mundo. Marcas e inscripciones, que nos permiten identificar a través de la investigación, talleres, plateros y donantes, su motivación, posición social y mentalidad de la época.

We present six important monstrances of sun type with beam of figure, pieces of Iberoamerican silverware in Álava and Bizkaia. Five of them, preserved “in situ” and one in the Museum of Sacred Art in Vitoria. Highlights the work, quality and iconography of these small sculptures –two-headed eagle, winged and Holy Angels– features but unique. Complete with the splendor of the Sun, Valances and scalloped that alternate with materials and precious stones. Relationship between the models that were made in the peninsula and those of the new world. Marks and inscriptions, that allow us to identify through research, workshops, silversmiths and donors, their motivation, social position and mentality of the time.
