  • Resumen
    • The edition of the Cathedral Homilies of Severus of Antioch started being published in 1906 and ended in 1976. Now we are able to form a complete idea and appreciate the great significance of Severus both as a Pastor and especially as an orator. His irnportance in the history of theology as spiritual leader of the cantical cedoniana, faction was already known at that time. Now we can contemplate him as a zealous and intelligent Bis,hop who strived to inculcate his monophysitics beliefs in a town as irnportant as Antioch and its neighbouring communities. But the 125 Cathedral Homilies offer rniiny other interesting aspects, sometimes uncommon and even unique, about the history of ancient Christian preaching. The article discusses the nature of Severus's preaching the rhetorical methods .he followed and his exegesis. It also explains what the homilies permit us to glimpse about the congregations and their reactions, which conditioned Severus's preaching. The texts of the homilies and their curious titles also provide a considerable amount of inforrnation about the time and place of this preaching, and rnany other details which place Severus in a pre-eminent position in the history of preaching.
