This paper uses a disaggregated approach to analyse total factor productivity convergence in 121 European regions for 1995-2007. To that end, TFP growth rates and levels are computed, and the role of sectors in aggregate TFP convergence is analysed. Our results show evidence of different trends across the northern and southern regions. Productivity levels in northern regions have improved while the southern regions have shown persistence. The northern regions tend to move closer to the leading region by means of higher within-sector TFP growth rates, specifically in private services and industry, while the southern regions tend to move away
