In the Letters bearing the narne of Paul, the word cekklesia applies 41 times to the local church (the congregation of al1 the Christians present in one town), 14 times to the Universal Church (or the Church as institution) and 4 times to the [[house churches (rninor cornrnunities, spread out in one town). The paper outlines the weigth of the house churches, as the proper place for personal assirnilation of the word of God, for sorne kind of liturgy and for an intirnate cornrnunication arnong Christians. The local church is properly -church of God and, as we said, the rnain irnplication of the word ekklesia., because in it, by the celebration of the Lord's Supper, the New Covenant becornes a reality. Local churches, nevertheless, are frequently rnentioned in plural, because they are included in sorne superior unity. The paper sees al1 pauline churches uniting in sorne kind of apostolic district- (or dioceses-) and studies the relationships arnong different dioceses,, in the prirnitive Church. A study illustrating the universal irnplications of the word aekklesian is being prepared for the next issue of Revista Catalana de Teologia.
