    • Owing to the availability of increasing number of fission track ages, several overview maps were produced and detailed orogen-scale maps and data bases are in production nowadays. These compilations typically have problems with the various data quality, incomparable techniques and very different measurement errors.

The widely used chi-squre test is inappropriate for this purpose, because it needs high number of data, which is usually not available in the case o f fission track analysis with a typical number ofca. 20-30 crystals counted. Here a new comparative technique is proposed, based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test, which is, so far, uncommonly used in the field o f the fission track analysis. The advantages of the K-S test over the chi-square test are: it can be applied having less data, its simplicity, no need o f any (sometimes artificial) binning of the data. The proposal is intended to the widest range of applications: besides of its capability to compare data gained with different technologies, it can be applied, with some restrictions, in the observer training and in inter-laboratory comparisons.
