Preliminary apatite fission track analyses from the Polish Western Carpathians indicate maximum 10 km o f Miocene uplift and exhumation in the Internal Carpathians (Tatra Mountains) and suggest slightly larger amount o f exhumation in the eastern part. Track length analyses indicate that uplift occurred at moderate rates. Thermal history o f the Outer Carpathians Jlysch sequences varies in different tectonic units. Apatites from the Dukla nappe preserved cooling ages o f their source region(s): 154.0 ± 8.6 and 20.7 ±3.0 Ma.
However, in the structurally higher Magura nappe fission tracks have been partially annealed. Large scatter ofindividual grain ages did not allow to obtain a meaningful age. The observed partial annealing is interpreted as mostly due to burial in the Eocene sedimentary basin. In general, apatite fission track age resetting that could possibly be associated with the Miocene nappe formation is very low.
