Los movimientos migratorios han cambiado sustancialmente en las últimas décadas. La distinción entre migrantes voluntarios o forzosos resulta insuficiente para comprender la variedad de situaciones que revelan con carácter general los flujos migratorios. En la actualidad, la frontera entre ambos conceptos es porosa y existen amplias zonas grises y categorías híbridas, como por ejemplo las migraciones mixtas. Dentro de este marco general de las migraciones, también se están produciendo cambios sustanciales en cuanto a la población refugiada. Han aparecido nuevas causas por las cuales las personas huyen de sus hogares porque sus vidas corren peligro y, sobre todo, han emergido nuevas tipologías de refugiados que no encuentran un cómodo encaje en la normativa internacional actual

International migration flows have changed in the last decades. The distinction between voluntary and forced migrants is insufficient to understand the diversity of migratory flows. Presently, the border between both concepts is porous and there are big grey areas such as mixed migration. Within this framework about migration, changes regarding refugees are also important. New causes and dangers have appeared to explain why humans leave their homes and, above all, new typologies of refugees who cannot adapt to the International Migration Law have emerged
