The emergence in the region of governments different than neoliberal ones meant a change in the relations between the State and the popular sectors, which cast doubt on the role that critical thinking had assigned to the former. The State no longer appears as the guarantor of social exclusion to play an inclusive role. In Argentina, kirchnerismo fi ts into this framework and nourishes it. Different studies seek to interpret this change of the State role by the category of hegemony, taking into account both classical studies of Marxism –Gramsci in top place– and Laclau’s post-foundational approach. The article seeks to outline the differences on the theoretical foundations of the State’s role, which would explain divergent interpretations of kirchnerismo as a hegemonic construction. It is proposed to recover a relational view of the State as a basis for the study of hegemony
