  • Resumen
    • In this research, the use of resistive strain gauges for deformation monitoring and damage assessment in API‐X42 steel pressure pipelines subject to ground displacement loads was studied. Steel pipeline segments under bending actions with variable operating pressures were analysed by finite element modelling. Experimental models of API‐X42 steel pipeline segments for typical operating pressures were tested in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the placement topologies of resistive strain gauges as well as the reliability of the detection algorithm of maximum strains under conditions of plastic behaviour and buckling. First experimental results indicate that there are advantages of resistive strain gauges for plasticity measurements. Nevertheless, limitations in the common detection algorithm analysed were found.
