The article focuses on the correspondence between Lodovico Antonio Muratori (1672-1750) and the chancellor Beltrame Cristiani (1702-1758). Through their correspondence, it shows how a generation of politicians and intellectuals, engaged in political reform, took Muratori as a point of reference, recalling in particular his jurisdictional battles against the undue claims of the Roman Curia and his proposals for religious reform.
