Para o estudo do Neolítico Médio: o sítio da Fábrica de Celulose (Mourão)

    The Middle Neolithic settlement of Fábrica de Celulose (Mourão), on the left Guadiana river bank, is mostly submerged by the waters of the Alqueva dam (nowadays). In this paper we present the main results of its archaeological rescue excavation. The site has only one thin archaeological layer with domestic structures constituted by hearths, filled by fire-cracked pebble stones where no ecofacts were preserved. Thus, the characterization of the site is mainly based on the material culture and in comparison with other sites it established not only residential, but also funerary and socioreligious traits. All of them belong to the same ceramic stylistic framework (mostly plain spherical bowls and ovoid- shaped vessels, decorated with an incised line below the rim). This information provides the site a chronological positioning in the first half of the fourth millennium BC and association with the initial Megalithism phase

    Procede-se à apresentação do sítio arqueológico do Neolítico Médio da Fábrica de Celulose (Mourão), diretamente sobre a margem esquerda do Médio Guadiana, presentemente em grande parte submerso pelas águas do regolfo da barragem de Alqueva. Com um único e pouco espesso nível de ocupação e estruturas domésticas constituídas por lareiras, onde não se conservaram quaisquer ecofactos, a caracterização do sítio apoia-se sobretudo na cultura material e na comparação estabelecida com outras jazidas do mesmo horizonte estilístico presente em contextos não só de carácter residencial, mas também funerário e sócio-religioso. Assim, foi possível correlacioná- lo com o Megalitismo inicial, datável da primeira metade do IV milénio BC.
