  • Resumen
    • The oxygen and carbon isotopic records for marine carbonates have distinct signals as functions of time. This evolution could be used to resolve and thus provide absolute age. The present work provide new isotopic data for the late Liassic age. A pelagic swell in the External Zones of the Betic Cordilleras (SE Spain) have been studied: the Sierra de Qufpar, in the proximity o f Caravaca (province of Murcia). Despite significant impact of diagenesis, correspondence in character and amplitude of the 8n C and 8wO trends in time-equivalent sections from different areas and palaeoenvironments clearly argue for the preservation of the original marine signal. The comparison of global isotopic curves with those proposed in this work allow the differentiation of a global "event". Thus, the early Toarcian transgression (Falciferum Zone) is documented. This event is characterised by a maximum for 8, !C and a minimum for 8wO values. This characteristic trait of the chemical-stratigraphic scale can be used as a correlation tool in stratigraphic units with scarce biostratigraphic information.
