L’article porte sur le répertoire de chants liés au culte de la divinité Boukou Atchoko, un avatar de la grande divinité Naa Boukou, et plus particulièrement sur la récurrence du terme polysémique oké (littéralement « montagne ») dans les textes de ces chants. L’objet de cet article est d’analyser la célébration de Boukou Atchoko par le biais de la parole chantée. L’hypothèse envisagée est qu’en raison de certaines particularités du contexte religieux et musical, l’acte énonciatif du mot oké « fait voir » une image mentale, celle de la montagne, et en écho le réseau de significations relatif à la divinité Boukou Atchoko, à son culte et, au-delà, à la divinité mère Naa Boukou. Cet article prend la forme d’un petit essai qui se veut volontairement restreint et avant tout exploratoire. Il s’appuie sur les données descriptives des rituels relevés sur le terrain, sur l’analyse du système musical et sur la traduction des chants appartenant au répertoire des initiées.

The paper concerns the repertory of songs associated with the cult of the goddess Boukou Atchoko, an avatar of the great goddess Naa Atchoko, and more particularly the recurrence of the term oké (literally mountain) in the text of the songs. The aim of this paper is to understand the role of sung words in the worship of Boukou Atchoko. Because of certain characteristics of the musical and religious context, the act of enunciation of the word oké “makes us see” a mental image of the mountain and, through a kind of echo, the significant network of associations of the goddess Boukou Atchoko and even beyond of those of the mother goddess Naa Atchoko herself. This short paper is thus a deliberately limited and exploratory essay. It is based on descriptive data obtained in the fi eld of certain rituals, as well as on the analysis of the musical system and on translations of the songs of the initiation rituals.
