It is a consolidated historiographic thesis that ex Fascist Minister, Dino Grandi, from the very beginning of the Italian Republic had abandoned every ambition toplay a leading political role. The unpublished diary of Corrado Muscarà, his closeassistant during Fascism, first to the Ministry of Justice and then to the Chamber ofFasci and Corporations, raises doubts about this interpretation. According to Muscaràand other trusted assistants, Grandi tried, above all by intervening on the ChristianDemocrat exponent Giovanni Gronchi, the future President of the Republic, to returnto the Italian political scene.
