Accidents involving bicycle and skateboards are common among children and teenagers. Despite this, many of them do not wear a helmet. Understanding the brain architecture, its weaknesses, and the importance of wearing protection, can minimize or even prevent traumatic brain injuries. Scientific dissemination is a useful tool for this purpose. The Group of Studies in Neurosciences (GEN) of the Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná (UENP - State University of Northern Paraná) held the event "Knowing the Brain", in the style of a science show. The fourth chapter of this event presented thematic stands about brain injuries and wearing helmets. The purpose of this article is to report actions developed at that event, subdivided into three stages to facilitate understanding. Visitors heard explanations about the brain and took part in activities that demonstrated the importance of the helmet. Over 300 people attended the event. The questions asked by the visitors to the stand and their reactions to the activities showed that the objective of drawing people’s attention to the topic was achieved.

Acidentes de bicicleta e skates envolvendo crianças e adolescentes são comuns. Apesar disso, muitos não usam capacete. Compreender estruturas cerebrais, suas fragilidades e como é importante usar proteção pode minimizar e até prevenir lesões encefálicas traumáticas. A divulgação cientifica é uma ferramenta útil para esse fim. O Grupo de Estudos em Neurociências (GEN) da Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná (UENP) realizou o evento “Conhecendo o Cérebro”, estilo mostra de ciências que, na IV edição, apresentou estandes sobre prevenção de lesões cerebrais com o uso de capacetes. O objetivo do artigo é relatar ações desse estande, subdividido em três etapas para facilitar o entendimento. Os visitantes ouviram explicações sobre o encéfalo e participaram de atividades que demonstravam a importância do capacete. Mais de 300 pessoas compareceram nos dias que o evento foi realizado. De acordo com perguntas e reações dos visitantes no estande em questão, nota-se que o objetivo de despertar o interesse pelo assunto foi alcançado.
