El estudio de las “funciones definidas a trozos”: modelizando el circuito del alcohol en el cuerpo humano con estudiantes de la escuela secundaria

    En este trabajo se presenta la descripción de la implementación de una Actividad de Estudio e Investigación en un curso de una escuela secundaria argentina en el contexto del circuito del alcohol en el cuerpo humano, de cuyo estudio emergió la noción de “funciones definidas a trozos”. La descripción se centra en las preguntas formuladas y las respuestas construidas por los estudiantes, destacando las nociones matemáticas que este proceso permitió construir. La cuestión generatriz del estudio fue ¿Cómo la Matemática nos permite modelizar el circuito del alcohol en el cuerpo humano?, ya que esta temática constituye una problemática social muy actual, que afecta de manera marcada a los adolescentes. Con esta actividad, los estudiantes lograron reencontrar nociones matemáticas relativas a función lineal (antes estudiadas), y abordar las funciones lineales definidas a trozos.

    The aim of this paper is to describe the implementation of a Study and Research Activity in a course of an Argentine secondary school in the context of the study of alcohol circuit in the human body. From this process the students got the notions about the piecewise functions. The description focuses on the questions raised and the answers constructed by the students, highlighting the mathematical notions that this process allowed to build.

    The main question of the study was: How does Mathematic allow us to model the alcohol circuit in the human body? since this topic constitutes a very current social issue, which is very close to the teenager’s problems. With this activity, the students managed to review some mathematical notions related to linear function (previously studied), and address the linear piecewise functions, which were new for them.
