Resumen de Naturalistas suizos en el Museo de La Plata (Siglos XIX-XX)

En los albores de su creación, el Museo de La Plata, dirigido por el Perito F. P. Moreno convocó a jóvenes naturalistas europeos. Entre ellos se destacó un grupo de naturalistas suizos que decidieron instalarse en nuestro país y trabajar en esta institución. Wehrli, Burckhardt, Roth, Mercerat, Delachaux, recorrieron nuestro país como naturalistas viajeros y en este Museo escribieron una página de las Ciencias en Argentina. Algunos como Wehrli volvieron a Europa, otros como Mercerat decidieron echar raíces e inclusive se destacó Delachaux que tomó partido por los derechos argentinos en la cuestión de límites con Chile. Al recorrer la historia del Museo entre los años 1895 y 1924, surgen otras figuras poco conocidas, con excepción de Santiago Roth que parece presidir al grupo helvético a través de esta semblanza. Otro lazo entre el Museo y Suiza se desarrolló mediante las publicaciones en la Revista del Museo de La Plata, que atrajo a otros suizos, por ejemplo Alfred Métraux y François A. Forel. Asimismo se destacan la Biblioteca del Museo por los numerosos ejemplares de publicaciones suizas recibidas en canje, la mapoteca y el Archivo Histórico que busca reconstruir una historia poco conocida.

In its beginning the La Plata Museum, directed by Francisco P. Moreno, hired young European naturalists. Among them was a group of Swiss who decided to settle in the country and work in the museum. Wehrli, Burckhardt, Roth, Mercerat, Delachaux, covered the country as travelling naturalists and from the museum they contributed to the development of science in Argentina. Some like Wehrli returned to Europe, others like Mercerat decided to stay and even Delachaux stayed to participate in the question of limits with Chile. In the history of the museum between 1895 and 1924 there were other less known figures, with exception of Roth that in this analysis seems to constitute the most important person of the Swiss group. Another link between the museum and Switzerland was established through the Revista del Museo de La Plata, where other Swiss authors published, such as Alfred Métraux and François A. Forel. Also worthy of mention is the Library that received numerous Swiss publications in exchange, the map library and the historical archive, all of which allow reconstructing the history of Swiss involvement in the museum.
