En la història de les excavacions per localitzar la ciutat grega de Roses, Ferran Cufí, fill de la mateixa població i aficionat a l’arqueologia, hi figura amb nom propi. La seva biografia, però, és força desconeguda i aquest article vol ajudar a perfilar-la. Després d’una etapa a Cuba, retornà a Roses en temps de la II República. Comptable de professió i vinculat a organitzacions d’esquerra, Cufí inicià les prospeccions en 1934 i les va prosseguir durant la Guerra Civil amb la col·laboració del gironí Francesc Riuró. S’implicà en la col·lectivitat pesquera i, a la postguerra, fou perseguit pel règim franquista. Sofrí presó, participà en activitats clandestines a Girona i, finalment, marxà a Cuba, d’on era natural la seva esposa i on va celebrar la revolució de Fidel Castro.

In the history of the excavations to locate the Greek city of Roses, Ferran Cufí, a local and a fan of archeology, stands out with his own name. His biography, however, is quite unknown and this article wants to help outline it. After a stay in Cuba, he returned to Roses during the Second Republic. Accountant by profession and linked to left ist organizations,Cufí began archaeological prospects in 1934 and continued throughout the Civil War with the collaboration of Girona-born Francesc Riuró. It was engaged with the fishing community and, in the postwar period, persecuted by the Franco regime. He imprisoned, participated in clandestine activities in Girona and, finally, left for Cuba, where his wife was from, and where he celebrated the revolution of Fidel Castro
