Resumen de Acceso y uso de información militar en época Antonina: una aproximación al libro X del epistolario de Plinio el Joven

  En el presente artículo se pretende indagar la información militar que contiene el libro X del epistolario de Plinio el joven. Para el trabajo se ha adoptado una aproximación al debate de la Grand Strategy del Imperio Romano y se han utilizado los modelos de relectura de las cartas de Plinio propuestos por Stadter y Woolf buscando correlacionar ambos temas. Desde esa premisa se han analizado las cartas con referencias de asuntos militares, centrándose en los temas de disponibilidad, acceso y uso por parte de los gobernadores provinciales de información militar. Se sostendrá que si bien los libros de cartas de Plinio han sido utilizados para comprender la elite, la sociedad, la economía y la cultura del siglo II también nos permite aproximarnos al funcionamiento militar del Imperio Romano en el siglo de los Antoninos. De este modo se pretende contribuir al debate que fuera iniciado por Edward Luttwak en 1976 y que aún permanece inconcluso sobre el grado de complejidad que alcanzó el Imperio Romano en la organización de su política exterior.

  In the present article it is tried to investigate the military information that contains the book X of the correspondence of Pliny the younger. For the previous thing the debate of the Grand Strategy of the Roman Empire has approached and the models of rereading of the letters of Pliny, proposed by Stadter and Woolf. From that premise the letters with references of military matters have been analyzed, focusing on the issues of availability, access and use by the provincial governors of military information. It will be argued that while Pliny’s letters of letters have been used to understand the elite, society, economy and culture of the second century also allow us to approach the military functioning of the Roman Empire in the Antonine century.

  In this way it is intended to contribute to the debate that was initiated by Edward Luttwak in 1976 and that still remains inconclusive on the degree of complexity reached by the Roman Empire in the organization of its foreign policy.
