La región del golfo Pérsico vuelve a estar sometida a una situación de gran tensión, fundamentalmente debido al abandono estadounidense del Acuerdo Nuclear, o Plan de Acción Integral Conjunto, en mayo de 2018 y la derivada reimposición de sanciones comerciales a Irán. Unos hechos que no son sino consecuencia del desequilibrio en el orden regional que dio lugar a la retirada del núcleo principal de la fuerza militar estadounidense desplegada en el área a partir de 2011. El fin de la presencia militar masiva de los EE. UU. proporcionó a Irán la oportunidad para expandir su influencia a lo largo de toda la región, aprovechando los numerosos conflictos que existen en esa parte del mundo, una situación que ha dado lugar a una importante percepción de inseguridad en los aliados regionales estadounidenses. Así, los EE. UU. ahora tratan de restablecer el equilibrio regional, recortando la capacidad de Irán para intervenir en las naciones de su entorno, mediante unas sanciones reforzadas que reduzcan la capacidad de financiación del régimen de Teherán; intento al que responde Irán mediante amenazas de uso de la violencia y presión diplomática, lo que ha provocado un incremento, aunque limitado y posiblemente temporal, del despliegue militar estadounidense en el área de Oriente Medio.

The Persian Gulf region is again subject to a high international tension. It has its roots in the US leaving on May 2018 of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) and the re-imposition of trade sanctions on Iran. A fact that is not but consequence of an imbalance in the regional order as a result of the departure from the Middle East of the main core of the American military force and the subsequent expansion of the Iranian influence throughout all the region, taking advantage of the numerous conflicts existing in that part of the world. A situation that has given rise to a perception of a lack of security for the American regional allies. Therefore, now the USA is trying to restore a regional balance by cutting Iran's ability to intervene in the surrounding nations, it is been done in the first place through reinforced sanctions to reduce the Tehran regime's funding. The Iranian response is composed by threats of use of violence and diplomatic pressure at the same time, and in turn, it has triggered an increase, although limited and possibly temporary, of the American military deployment in the Persian Gulf region
