Estrategias y conflictos contemporáneos en la región del mar Egeo

    El presente documento trata de subrayar los principales elementos que constituyen el núcleo de las estrategias que tanto Grecia como Turquía aplican en la región del mar Egeo. En este trabajo, se pretende comparar las raíces históricas y la identidad actual y las características religiosas de las dos culturas con los objetivos estratégicos y geopolíticos realistas que los dos países tienen en la zona. Todos estos elementos importantes muestran cómo la estructura básica del conflicto interactúa directamente con el proceso de construcción de la identidad que condujo a varias confrontaciones directas entre estos actores, incluyendo el trágico conflicto en Chipre en 1974 y la crisis militar del Egeo en 1996 para el control del islote Imia/Kardak. Con el fin de privilegiar una visión acrítica y realista, he dejado los discursos políticos y las circunstancias actuales fuera de la discusión, para centrar la atención en la característica inmutable que demostró ser permanente y esencial en el marco más amplio del mar Egeo.

    The present paper tries to underline the major elements that constitute the core of the strategies that both Greek and Turkey implement in the Aegean Sea region. In this work, I try to compare the historical roots and the current identity and religious features of the two cultures with the realist strategic and geopolitical aims that the two countries have in the area. As all these important elements show how the basic structure of the conflict directly interacts with the identity-building process that drove several direct confrontations between these actors, including the tragic conflict in Cyprus in 1974 and the 1996 Aegean military crisis for the control of the Imia/Kardak islet. In order to privilege an uncritical and realist vision, I left current political discourses and circumstances outside the discussion, in order to focus the attention on the unchanging feature that demonstrated to be permanent and essential elements of the wider Aegean Sea framework.
