    The evolution of the forest landscape (1950-2013) in the Alt Empordà.In Catalonia in thelast 50 years there has been a significanttransformationofthelandscapeagroforestry.TheregionofAltEmpordàisaveryinterestingcase,wheretheforestareahasincreasedby12%intheperiod from 1957 to 2009. This is a product ofruralabandonmentoccurredduringthesecondhalfofthetwentiethcentury.Duringthisperiodthe forest and the scrublands invaded theagricultural areas, as a product of the lack offorestexploitationandabandonmentofcrops.Asaresultofthisprocessthelandscapehavebeenhomogenized,andhasincreasedtheriskoffires.Looking to the future, the landscape of AltEmpordàaregoingtochangemore,becausetheclimatechangescenariospredictchangesinthedistribution of forest species and the increase offires. It’s important to learn and understandthese changes in order to improve forestmanagementadapttoclimatechangeandcopewith fires, at the same time that we conserve adiversenaturalforests,andthemosaicpatchworklandscape with pastures, farmlands, grassland,and forests, like the characteristic landscape oftheMediterraneanbiogeographicalregion

    A Catalunya, en els últims 50 anys, s’haproduït una important transformació delpaisatge agroforestal. Un cas moltinteressant és el de la comarca de l’AltEmpordà, en què la superfície forestal haaugmentat un 12%, en el període de 1957 a2009. Això és producte de l’abandonamentrural i la reducció de l’activitat forestaldurant la segona meitat del segleXX, on elbosc i els matollars van anar envaint elsconreus. Com a conseqüència d’aquestprocés, el paisatge de la comarca s’hahomogeneïtzat, i s’ha incrementat el risc degrans incendis forestals. A més, el paisatgeforestal de l’Alt Empordà continuatransformant-se,jaqueambelsescenarisdecanvi climàtic es preveuen canvis en ladistribució d’espècies forestals i l’augmentd’incendis. Cal tenir presents aquests canvispertaldemillorarlagestióforestal,adaptar-nos al canvi climàtic i fer front als incendis,aconseguint mantenir la diversificació delsboscos naturals i l’estructura en mosaic enels terrenys agrícoles, pastures, herbassars iforestals que caracteritzen aquest entornbiogeogràfic mediterrani
