    Immediatament després d’acabada la guerra civil a l’Alt Empordà, el 10 de febrer de 1939, les tropes del general Franco trobaren dispersos per la comarca diversos dipòsits on s’emmagatzemaven tots aquells tresors artístics que la República no havia pogut traslladar a França i, després, a Ginebra. El Govern de Burgos, a mida que avançava i conqueria territori, va establir ens i fórmules administratives per reordenar tot allò que durant la guerra havia estat tret del seu emplaçament per evitar el seu saqueig o destrucció. L’Alt Empordà no serà una excepció i s’organitza el Servicio de Defensa del Patrimonio Artístico Nacional (SDPAN), amb seu a Figueres, i que s’encarregarà de supervisar, catalogar i retornar tot allò que trobin en els diferents dipòsits de Figueres, Peralada i Darnius, més els dipòsits que varen habilitar per tots aquells objectes que s’anaven trobant per causa d’amagatalls o per incautacions fetes durant la guerra. La història de l’SDPAN a Figueres, fins ara desconeguda, surt a la llum gràcies a la documentació trobada a l’Arxiu de l’Institut Ramon Muntaner de Figueres, l’Arxiu Comarcal de l’Alt Empordà i el Museu de l’Empordà, els quals guarden un valuós capítol de la història recent de l’Empordà i de la Història de l’Art Internacional.

    Immediately after the Civil War ended in the Alt Empordà county, on February 10 , 1939 ,general Franco’ stroops found several depots allover the region where arttreasures had been stored which the Republic had not been able to move to France and , later, Geneva .The Burgos government , as it advanced and conquered the territory, established administrativ estructures and formulas to reorganize everything that had been taken from its original site to avoid looting or destruction. The Alt Empordà county was no exception and a chapter of the Service for the Defence of National Art Heritage(S.D.P.A. N. ) was established in Figueres which supervised ,catalogued and returned the art work that was found in the depots in Figueres, Peralada and Darnius, and all the depots that were discovered and tha thad been arranged for hidden or seized objects during the war.The history of the S.D. P.A .N . in Figueres, unknown until now , has been discovered thanks to documents at the Archive of the Institut Ramon Muntaner in Figueres , the Arxiu Comarcal de l’Alt Empordà and the Museu de l'E mpordà, where avaluable chapter of the recent history of the Empordà and of international art history is prese
