Figueres i Felip V (1701-1714)

    A Figueres, durant la Guerra de Successió, hi va haver actituds diverses de la població al’hora de definir-se per un o altre bàndol . La condició de frontera que tenia l’Empordà feia que hi hagués un sentiment d’aversió vers el que venia del nord. França, i Lluís XIV, havia estat l’enemic a partir de 1652, Felip V era el nét. To t i això , una part important de la seva elit , doctors en drets i botiguers majoritàriament, es va mostrar partidària de Felip V, sigui pel casament portat a terme a Figueres ,per dinasticisme o per convicció . La majoria,però, de la qual no han quedat massa indicis en la documentació, van seguir el partit de l’ arxiduc Carles. En aquest text es presenta, a manera d’exemple , quatre d’aquests filipistes o botiflers : Gregori Matas i Pujol, Salvador Prats i Matas, Àngel Mach i Cortada i Ramon Gorgot de Farnés. I es plantegen les dificultats metodo lògiques per fer la història dels austriacistes a Figueres i a l’Empordà

    During the War of the Spanish Succession, the population of Figueres had diverse attitudes at taking up a stance towards one side or the other .The frontier situation of Empordà region led to an aversion towards every thing that came from the north . Ever since 1652, France had become an enemy; Philip V was no other than the grandson of Louis XIV. Never the less, an important part of the elites from Figueres,doctors in laws and shopkeepers mostly, were in favour of Philip V, whether because of his wedding in Figueres ,their dynasticism or because of their convictions. How ever ,the vast majority of the population supported archduke Charles.Therere mains little documented evidence of this fact ,though. This text introduces, as an example, four of these Philippists or “botiflers ” (traitors) :Gregori Matas i Pujol , Salvador Prats i Matas, Àngel Mach i Cortada and Ramon Gorgot de Farnés, and presents the methodological difficullties for documenting the history of the Austriac ists in Figueres and in Empordà
