Resumen de Vida económica y moralidad: Tomás de Aquino, Petrus Iohannis Olivi y el rol de los mercaderes en de la sociedad

Al revisar los planteos y reflexiones realizados por Tomás de Aquino y por Petrus Iohannis Olivi sobre la relación entre la ética y la vida económica, uno de los temas preponderantes es la discusión sobre la moralidad de la actividad de los mercaderes. El artículo intenta estudiar la contraposición entre las visiones de ambos autores con respecto a la valoración moral de la compra y venta de objetos y, sobre todo, los presupuestos racionales y las obligaciones morales que deducen de ello. En segundo lugar, busca mostrar las diferentes miradas que tienen Tomás de Aquino y Petrus Iohannis Olivi sobre el impacto de esta actividad en la vida social y económica de la comunidad. Para terminar, se esboza brevemente la influencia que pudieran haber tenido en autores posteriores.

In reviewing the ideas and thoughts made by Thomas Aquinas and Petrus Iohannis Olivi on the relationship between ethics and economic life, one of the preponderant topics is the discussion on the morality of merchants' activity. The article tries to study the contrast between both authors’ visions with respect to the moral valuation of the purchase and sale of objects and, above all, the rational assumptions and the moral obligations they deduce from it. Secondly, it seeks to show the different views that Thomas Aquinas and Petrus Iohannis Olivi have on the impact of this activity on the social and economic life of the community. Finally, the influence they might have had on later authors is briefly sketched.
