    En sus casi 35 años de historia, los Centros de Internamiento de Extranjeros (CIE) siguen siendo uno de los eslabones más oscuros de la política migratoria. Las quejas por su funcionamiento y las denuncias continuas por violaciones de los derechos humanos se han encontrado con nulas consecuencias penales, administrativas o políticas para los responsables de estas. 11 personas han fallecido tras los muros de algún CIE español, y muchas más han presentado quejas en los juzgados de vigilancia a organizaciones no gubernamentales y en los tribunales. En este breve recorrido recuperamos la memoria de sus vidas y las circunstancias de sus muertes: un homenaje a quienes han muerto en un lugar donde nunca debieron estar encerradas.

    In their 35-year history, the foreigner detention centres (known as CIE) remain one of the darkest links in Spain’s immigration policy. Complaints regarding the way they function and the continuous reports of human rights violations, have not led to any criminal, administrative or political consequences for those who are responsible for these centres. 11 people have died behind the walls of these CIE and many more have filed complaints in surveillance courts before non-governmental organisations and in the courts. In this short article, we recover the memory of their lives and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. A tribute to those who have died in a place where they should never have been locked up.
