    The use of allocutive verb forms (known as “hitano” in Basque) is not heard in the streets of the Basque Country as much as before, and most of the time, the allocutive forms that are used are masculine ones, no feminine ones. Aware of this imbalance and concerned about the decline of the use “hitano” in recent years, the aim of this work is to get to the nitty gritty of the ideologies, beliefs and values of the young people of Azpeitia regarding “hitano”. To this end, three discussion groups were formed contain several boys and girls from the town. When they all came together, there seems to be a new understanding of “hitano” among members of the younger generation, as the social norms and beliefs behind “Hitano” have changed among young people. In addition, young people bring new concerns to the table and they are not clear whether “hitano” will survive.
