ABSTRACT: Objective: to analyze the relationship between two different types of psychosocial stress (chronic stress and life events) in the anxiety-depressive symptomatology and to observe the role of the mediating variables (perception of stress and coping strategies) in the greater or lesser intensity of said symptomatology. Method: a clinical sample was taken of patients who attended a USM at the first consultation, to which different instruments were administered to evaluate the variables to be studied. Results: The results showed a positive correlation between the psychosocial stress variables and the anxiousdepressive symptomatology. Coping strategies and the perception of stress modulate this symptomatology. Conclusions: psychosocial stress is a very significant variable in the patients treated in the USM. In addition, social support and coping strategies provide a very useful therapeutic strategy for the treatment of these problems.
