Punta arenas imaginada: El fundamento socioimaginario de apreciaciones estéticas-urbanas en la ciudad del fin del mundo

    Este artículo es una apuesta por comprender la ciudad desde un enfoque urbano-territorial que considera y explora las “miradas ciudadanas” y como estas establecen a través de sus “juicios del gusto” unos imaginarios particulares sobre el espacio habitado, los cuales, por cierto, están impregnados de una carga simbólica atribuida a la materialidad vivida y percibida en Punta Arenas. Esto, a su vez, contribuye a la creación y mantención de identidades locales. Los resultados de este trabajo provienen de la realización de una encuesta denominada “Punta Arenas imaginada”, que interroga a los habitantes de la ciudad sobre los imaginarios que tienen con respecto a los lugares, la materialidad y los paisajes de la ciudad. Se identifica la emergencia de imaginarios territoriales vinculados a construcciones socio-imaginarias donde predominan los juicios “estéticos” a la hora de definir ciertos lugares de la ciudad y también irrumpen niveles de estigmatización y de construcción de otredades con connotaciones negativas de la diferencia.

    Es importante destacar que existen miradas ciudadanas divergentes sobre la ciudad, revelando el carácter plural de los actores que la habitan y, por ende, la heterogeneidad de imaginarios producidos en torno a ella.

    This article is a commitment to understand the city from an urbanterritorial approach that considers and explores the “citizen views” and how they establish through their “judgments of taste” some particular imaginaries about inhabited space, which, by the way, are impregnated with a symbolic charge, attributed to the lived and perceived materiality in Punta Arenas. This, in turn, contributes to the creation and maintenance of local identities. The results of this work come from a survey called “Punta Arenas imagined”, questions the inhabitants of the city on the imaginary they have with regard to the place, materiality and city landscapes. It identifies the emergence of territorial imaginaries linked to socio-imaginary constructions where “aesthetic” judgments predominate when defining certain places in the city, and burst levels of stigma and construction of otherness with negative connotations of the difference are identified. It is important to note that there are divergent citizen views on the city, revealing the plural nature of the actors who inhabit it and thus the heterogeneity of imaginaries produced around it
