    • This chapter shows the main proposals and research in the fields of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). It presents the requirements to implement the proposed system in different scenarios. IoT and AI offer promising operations and ways of interacting with the environment through autonomous irrigation. Ubiquitous technologies and IoT are identified in different articles as trends that are opening up new avenues for the development of new technologies applied to the green areas in cities. AgroTick is an IoT based system supported with mobile interface and designed using technology modules like cloud computing, embedded firmware, a hardware unit and Big Data analytics. Software-defined network (SDN) is used in this system to ensure the future scalability, data security, and the inclusion of the smart algorithm in the network. The data gathered by the smart meters and the sensors are sent to the SDN controller with the network statistics gathered by the network nodes.
