  • The trade in manta gills is highlighted in a report published in 2012 by the conservation charity WildAid. Gills fetch on average $251 a kg in Guangzhou in southern China, where almost all the trade takes place. WildAid says the trade is valued at $11 million annually, whereas the tourist draw of mantas is estimated at more than $100 million per year.
