Resumen de Precisiones estratigráficas y paleogeográficas del Cuaternario de la región de Nerja (Provincia de Málaga, España)

Antonio Guerra Merchán, D. Ramallo, Francisco Serrano Lozano

  • Three Quaternary stratigraphic units have been established within the Nerja area. They represent three inbedded alluvial fan systems, which were originated at the base of the Sierra Almijara relief. The oldest unit is dated as lower Pleistocene, the intermediate unit is o f middle Pleistocenelowest upper Pleistocene age, and the most modern was developed during upper Pleistocene times. Tectonic activity in the region was the main factor controlling the generation of these alluvial fan systems. Thus, the generalized rising o f the area produced a change in the base level and the subsequent erosional phase and inbedding recognized between each unit. Similarly, tectonic activity would be responsible of the change in the direction of the Higueron river towards SE, where it joins the Chillar river, and also of the fact that the Maro ravine (which was displaced towards the East during the Pliocene) occupied again a position similar to that of modern times in the Lower-middle Pleistocene limit.
