In this paper the micropaleontological content of sediments from a mechanical core realized in the distal deposits of the Vinalopo fan, in the Elche-Santa Pola lagoon has been studied. The results indicate a succession of continental sedimentary environments dominated by alluvial deposits, which alternate, in the last meters of the core, with lagoonal and littoral levels; this beach is located between -9,5 m and -8,8m. This alternance of lagoonal and alluvial environments can be due to either the prograding/retiring alluvial fan or to the increase/decrease of the lagoon water level. Because of the particular location of the core, it is difficult to know which of this two processes is playing the major role. The ocurrence of Trichoyalus aguayoi (Bermudez) indicates a Holocene age for the last 8 meters of the core.
