Resumen de The Different Lives of Rubén Darío’s Los raros

Carlos F. Grigsby

  • This article offers a reading of Rubén Darío’s Los raros (1896) as a text which during Darío’s own lifetime had different lives: first as a series of journalistic pieces that began in Buenos Aires in 1893; then in its first edition as a book also published in Buenos Aires in 1896; and, finally, in its second edition published in Barcelona in 1905. In doing so, it offers a new interpretation of the structure of the text, and analyses it as the author’s personal canon of contemporary literature and the prose double of Prosas profanas (1896), Darío’s book of poems published the same year. It aims to offer a new reading of the meaning of ‘lo raro’, and to reassert the importance of periodicals for understanding the writing of the modernistas.
